Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to who Jesus is—the One who has already walked every path you might take. He is not distant from your questions; He draws near to guide. You might start by acknowledging His character. "Jesus, You are the Light that shines in darkness, and You promised that those who follow You will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life" (John 8:12, ESV). Sit with that truth for a moment. He is not confused about your situation. He sees the full picture—past, present, and what lies ahead—and His guidance flows from perfect love and infinite wisdom. Tell Him: You are trustworthy. You are my Shepherd, and I believe You lead me toward what is good.
Confession
Now, gently bring any hesitation or resistance you're carrying. Are you holding back from trusting His direction because you're afraid of the cost? Are you trying to figure everything out on your own, as if your wisdom is enough? There is no shame in this—it is simply human. Jesus welcomes your honesty. "Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). You might say: Jesus, I confess that I sometimes doubt. I want to control the outcome. I'm afraid of making the wrong choice. And I ask for Your forgiveness and help. He meets that confession not with judgment but with grace. His kindness invites you deeper into trust, not away from it.
Thanksgiving
Before you ask for direction, pause and name what you're grateful for. Thank Him for times He has already guided you—for paths that opened, for His faithfulness in the past, for His presence even when you couldn't see the whole plan. "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1, ESV). Gratitude softens your heart and reminds you that He has never left you stranded. You might say: Thank You that You have guided me before. Thank You that I don't have to figure this out alone. Thank You for caring about the details of my life. This posture of thanksgiving steadies you and makes space for genuine listening.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific need to Jesus. Name the decision, the crossroads, the uncertainty. Don't hide the weight of it. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths" (Proverbs 3:5–6, ESV). As you ask, release the demand that you see the entire map. Sometimes His guidance comes as a next step, not a lifetime plan. You might pray: Jesus, I don't know which way to turn. Show me what You want me to do. Give me wisdom to hear Your voice. Help me trust even when the path isn't fully lit. And if you're afraid, name that too. Ask Him for peace that steadies you even before the answer is clear. "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7, ESV). Rest in the knowledge that He has already heard you, and He is working.
