Adoration
Start by letting your eyes rest on who Jesus is in this moment. He is not distant from your confusion or your searching. As it says in Proverbs, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). Before you ask for guidance, spend a few moments simply acknowledging His character—that He knows the end from the beginning, that He cares about the details of your life, that His wisdom is patient and true. You might whisper to Him: *Jesus, You see what I cannot yet see. You are steady when I am uncertain. Thank You for being the kind of God who doesn't leave me to figure this out alone.* Let the truth settle: the God who guides is also the God who loves you completely, right now, in this evening hour.
Confession
Now, gently bring before Jesus any hesitation, fear, or resistance that lives in you around this decision. Sometimes we avoid clarity because we're afraid of what God might ask. Sometimes we rush ahead instead of waiting for His voice. You don't need to perform certainty you don't feel—Jesus already knows your heart. In Matthew, He invites us: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). That includes the weariness of indecision. Speak honestly: *Jesus, I confess that part of me wants to choose my own way. I'm afraid of what waiting might cost me. I'm unsure if I can trust what You're showing me.* Whatever the resistance is, name it without shame. He meets you in the honesty.
Thanksgiving
Move into gratitude for the ways Jesus has already guided you—even the small ways, even the detours that taught you something. Look back at your life and notice: where has His hand been steady? When have you sensed Him leading you away from harm, or toward something good you wouldn't have found on your own? The Psalmist says, "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy" (Psalm 16:11, ESV). Thank Him for the guidance already given. Thank Him, too, for the very fact that you're seeking His voice instead of rushing ahead alone. That desire itself is a gift. You might pray: *Thank You, Jesus, for every time I've felt Your hand in my life. Thank You that You've never left me without some light to follow, even in dark seasons. Thank You for giving me the wisdom to seek Your counsel now.*
My Concerns
Finally, bring your specific need for guidance into the light. Be direct and unhurried—Jesus is not on a clock. Tell Him what choice or direction you're carrying, what options are before you, what matters most to you in the outcome. Then ask Him to make His will clear. Not in a rushed way, but with trust. Jesus told His disciples, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, ESV). That promise is for you. You might pray: *Jesus, I'm standing at a crossroads with [name the decision]. I need Your wisdom. Show me Your way—whether through a clear sense of peace, through circumstances that open or close doors, through the counsel of people I trust, or in whatever way You choose to speak. Help me to wait for Your guidance rather than rush ahead. And give me peace that You are guiding me, even if the full picture isn't clear yet.* Stay in this moment. Rest in the asking. Trust that He is already working.
