Adoration
Begin by noticing who Jesus is in the midst of your uncertainty. He is not distant from your confusion—He moves toward it. You might pray about His wisdom that sees what you cannot yet see. As it says in Proverbs, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). Take a moment to acknowledge that His way is not hidden from Him, even when it feels hidden from you. You could speak to Him about His faithfulness in past moments when He guided you, even if you didn't recognize it at the time. Let yourself sit with the truth that Jesus has walked ahead of every path before you ever arrive there.
Confession
Now, gently turn toward the places where you've gotten stuck. You might notice fear—fear of choosing wrong, of missing out, of disappointing someone. Speak that aloud to Jesus without shame. You might also confess the times you've tried to figure everything out on your own, white-knuckling your way toward an answer instead of asking Him first. There's grace here. As Paul wrote, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, ESV). You don't have to have arrived at certainty yet. Jesus knows the weight you're carrying, and He invites you to name it rather than carry it alone.
Thanksgiving
Before you ask for what comes next, pause and notice what He has already given you. Thank Him for the season you're in—not because it's easy, but because it's real, and He is present in it. You might thank Him for the people around you, for the still-small voice you're learning to listen for, for past guidances that have proven trustworthy. Think about a time when He made a path clear, even in hindsight. Let gratitude soften the hard edges of your waiting. As the psalmist reminds us, "I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears" (Psalm 34:4, ESV). His track record with you matters. Spend a moment there.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific question to Jesus. You don't need perfect words—just honest ones. What decision are you carrying? What direction are you uncertain about? Lay it before Him and ask Him to guide you. You might pray for clarity, but more importantly, ask for a heart that will recognize His guidance when it comes—sometimes through circumstances, sometimes through the counsel of people you trust, sometimes through a deep sense of peace. Jesus said, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, ESV). Ask Him not just to show you the answer, but to help you trust Him in the not-yet-knowing. Ask for peace that holds you steady while you wait.
