Evening Guidance: Seeking Wisdom for the Path Ahead
As evening falls and tomorrow draws near, bring your questions and uncertainties to Jesus. This guide walks you through adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication—making space for you to ask for clarity and trust His direction for what lies ahead.

Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to who Jesus is—the one who knows the end from the beginning, who sees the whole path even when you can only see the next step. You might whisper to Him: "Jesus, you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life." Spend a moment acknowledging that He is not anxious about your decisions. He is not surprised by your uncertainty. As it's written, "The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand" (Psalm 37:23-24, NIV). Let that sink in—His steadiness is not dependent on your clarity. Rest in the truth that He is entirely trustworthy, entirely present, and entirely for you.
Confession
Now bring honesty into the room. Where have you been walking ahead of Him, making decisions without waiting for His voice? Where have you doubted that He actually has good plans for you? You don't need to perform perfect confession here—just name what's true. Maybe you've been anxious, trying to control outcomes. Maybe you've dismissed His guidance because it seemed too slow or too costly. Talk to Him about it: "I have not always trusted you." And then pause. Jesus knows you already. As He says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). Even your doubts do not disqualify you from His guidance. Confession is not about punishment; it's about clearing away what keeps you from hearing Him clearly.
Thanksgiving
Before asking, thank Him for how He has guided you before. Look back at your life—even at moments you didn't recognize as guidance at the time. Where has He shown up? Where have His directions, though sometimes hard, led you to solid ground? You might say: "Thank you for leading me through..." and name specific turns, relationships, or decisions. Thank Him for the Holy Spirit, who is your counselor and guide right now. Give thanks that you don't have to figure this out alone. As Paul writes, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7, NIV). Gratitude opens your heart to receive what comes next.
My Concerns
Now ask. Be specific. What decision are you facing? What direction are you unsure about? Lay it before Jesus without pretense. You might pray: "Show me the way forward. Help me hear your voice. Give me wisdom and courage to follow where you lead." Ask Him to calm your mind so you can listen. Ask for patience if His answer is not immediate. Ask for trust even when His guidance feels risky or counterintuitive. Remember that seeking guidance is not weakness—it's wisdom. As James encourages, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). Ask freely. Ask honestly. Ask with the confidence that He is listening and will answer.
