Evening Prayer: Releasing the Day
A gentle prayer to close your day with Jesus—releasing what you've carried, offering what you've learned, and settling into his presence before rest.

Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to Jesus himself. Think about who he is and what he's done. You might start simply: Jesus, you are faithful. You are here. You have been with me all day, even in the moments I didn't notice. As the psalmist says, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands" (Psalm 19:1, ESV)—and so does this day, now that it's ending and I can see it whole. Spend a moment noticing something about Jesus that steadies you: his patience, his kindness, his power, his nearness. Talk to him about what draws you to him tonight.
Confession
Now bring the weight you're carrying. Jesus doesn't need you to clean yourself up first; he meets you as you are. You might say: Jesus, I didn't love well today. I spoke harshly. I chose comfort over courage. I worried instead of trusting you. Or perhaps you're aware of small ways you've turned from him—distractions, unkindness, doubt. There's no shame in naming these things here. As 1 John 1:9 reminds us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (ESV). Take a moment to speak plainly about what's weighing on you, and then listen for the relief that comes with letting it go.
Thanksgiving
Shift now to gratitude. Even on difficult days, there are gifts. You might thank Jesus for small things: a meal, a conversation, a moment of beauty, rest coming tomorrow. You might thank him for larger things: people who love you, his constant presence, his forgiveness. The apostle Paul wrote from prison, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice" (Philippians 4:4, ESV)—not because everything is easy, but because Jesus is with you in it. What are you grateful for today? Name three things, or one thing deeply. Let gratitude settle into your chest.
My Concerns
Finally, bring your needs and the needs of those you love to Jesus. You don't have to use perfect words. You might say: Jesus, I'm tired. Help me rest well tonight. Or: I'm worried about tomorrow. Help me trust you. Or: My friend is hurting. Please draw near to them. Jesus invites you to cast "all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). Bring what's on your heart—the small concerns and the big ones—and hand them to him. Ask for what you need. Ask for what others need. Then pause, and sense his care reaching toward you.
