Evening Rest: Drawing Close to Jesus
A gentle prayer guide for evening, helping you release the day and settle your heart before Jesus. This guide creates space to reflect on what has been, confess what weighs on you, give thanks for small mercies, and entrust tomorrow to God's care.

Adoration
Begin by simply noticing Jesus' presence with you. You don't need fancy words—just turn your attention to who He is. He is constant; He hasn't left your side all day, even in moments you weren't aware of Him. As the writer of Proverbs reminds us, "The Lord's compassion never fails. It is new every morning; great is your faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV). Even now, at the end of this day, His faithfulness meets you. You might whisper to Him: *Jesus, I see your steadiness. I see how you've held me.* Notice what draws you to Him most right now—His gentleness, His strength, His wisdom. Spend a moment in quiet gratitude for simply knowing Him.
Confession
Now, let the day settle. As you look back, there may be things that don't sit well—words you wish you could take back, choices that didn't align with who you want to be, moments when you turned away instead of toward Him. This is not about shame; it's about honesty. Jesus invites us with these words: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). There's no judgment waiting. Just talk to Him about what's true. You might say: *Jesus, I'm carrying this today, and I need to lay it down.* Name what feels heavy. Let yourself be known. His grace is already there, waiting for your honesty.
Thanksgiving
Even on ordinary evenings, there are gifts. Small ones count—a warm meal, a moment of rest, someone who made you smile, a breath that came easily. Jesus wants to hear about these too. The apostle Paul wrote, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). Not *for* all circumstances, but *in* them—gratitude settles our hearts and reminds us we're not abandoned. Take time now to mention three things, even small ones. You might pray: *Thank you for...* and let the list grow. Watch how your heart shifts as you remember.
My Concerns
Finally, bring tomorrow and the unknowns to Jesus. What are you carrying into the next day? What do you need His help with? He invites this clearly: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7, ESV). This is not a wish list—it's an invitation to trust Him with what matters most. Talk to Him about what you're stepping toward, what worries you, what you're hoping for. You might simply say: *Jesus, I'm placing this in your hands.* Then sit for a moment in the quiet, letting His peace guard what you've just entrusted to Him.
