Finding Clarity in the In-Between
A midday prayer for when uncertainty feels heavy and you need to remember that Jesus walks with you through the fog. This guide helps you bring your questions to him honestly, trust what you do know, and take the next small step with confidence.
Midday
I don't know what to pray
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by remembering who you're talking to. Jesus is not rattled by your questions—he invites them. As Matthew records, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). He doesn't ask you to have it all figured out first. Take a moment to tell Jesus what you know about him that still feels true, even right now. Maybe it's that he's faithful, or that he sees you, or that he keeps his promises. You don't need perfect words—just honest ones. Speak to him about his character, about the steadiness you've felt from him before, even when the path ahead wasn't clear.
Confession
Uncertainty can whisper lies. Sometimes we believe that not knowing means we're failing, or that we should be further along than we are. You might feel frustrated with yourself, or afraid of making the wrong choice. Bring that to Jesus without shame. He knows already. The apostle John writes, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV)—and that includes the worry and doubt we carry. Tell Jesus where you feel stuck. Tell him if you're scared. Tell him if you've been pretending to be more certain than you actually are. He meets you in the honest place, not in the performance.
Thanksgiving
Even in the fog, there are solid ground beneath your feet. Look back and notice: What has Jesus already made clear to you? What guidance has come, even if it was small? What person, what verse, what moment of peace reminded you that you're not abandoned? Paul writes, "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice" (Philippians 4:4, ESV)—not because everything is resolved, but because Jesus himself is trustworthy. Thank him for the clarity you do have. Thank him for the friends who've walked with you. Thank him for bringing you to this prayer time, right now, where you can be honest with him.
My Concerns
Now bring your uncertainty directly to Jesus. You don't need to have the whole question perfectly framed—he understands the ache underneath it. Tell him what you're unsure about. Ask him to open your eyes to what's true. Ask for wisdom, not necessarily a lightning-bolt answer, but a quiet sense of what the next right step might be. Jesus promised, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). Ask him also to calm the noise in your mind so you can hear his voice. Ask him to help you trust him even in the not-knowing. And ask him to show you, in the coming hours, one small way you can move forward—not with certainty about everything, but with confidence that he is with you.
