Finding Clarity in the In-Between

A midday prayer for when you're standing in uncertainty and need to bring your doubt and questions to Jesus. This guide helps you voice what you don't know and listen for the peace that steadies you even before answers come.

Midday I don't know what to pray
5–12 min

You've paused in the middle of your day—and that matters. Bring your uncertainty to Jesus right now, just as you are.

Adoration

Start by turning your attention to who Jesus is in the midst of your unsureness. He doesn't ask you to feel confident before you come to him; he invites the wavering and the hesitant. You might praise him for his steadiness—the fact that his character doesn't shift with your feelings. As the writer of Hebrews reminds us, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8, ESV). In a moment when everything feels unclear, that unchanging nature is solid ground. Take a breath and tell him: What about his faithfulness draws you, even now? What has he proven true in your life before, even in small ways?

Confession

Now name the weight of not knowing. Uncertainty can feel like a failure, or it can feel like you're supposed to have figured things out by now. You might be carrying frustration with yourself, or fear about making the wrong choice. Talk to Jesus honestly about what this unsureness is stirring up in you. He already knows—he's not surprised by your doubt. Jesus himself cried out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Psalm 22:1, ESV), and his cry is recorded in Scripture not to shame us but to show us he understands the deepest questions. What feelings are tangled up in your uncertainty? Where are you blaming yourself? Ask him to help you set that down.

Thanksgiving

Even here, in the unclear place, there is something to be grateful for. You might thank Jesus for the people around you, for your own willingness to seek guidance, for the fact that you *know* you need help—that's actually a grace. Thank him that you don't have to figure this out alone, and that his mercies are new even in midday moments like this one. The psalmist wrote, "Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning" (Lamentations 3:23, NLT)—and that freshness extends to every hour of your day. What small thing can you name right now that you're grateful for, even in the midst of confusion?

My Concerns

Finally, bring your questions and needs before Jesus without pretense. You don't need to know what to ask for—you can ask him to show you. Tell him what you're facing: the decision you're uncertain about, the situation that feels unclear, the direction you wish you could see. Ask not just for answers, but for peace along the way. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). You might pray: Show me the next step, even if it's just the very next one. Give me peace that doesn't depend on me understanding everything first. Help me trust you more than I trust my own doubt. Sit with him a moment in silence too—sometimes the deepest prayer is simply waiting, knowing he's with you.
