Finding Clarity in the Uncertain Middle
A midday prayer for when you're caught between knowing and not knowing. This guide walks you through bringing your confusion to Jesus and inviting Him to guide your next step—without needing to have it all figured out right now.
Midday
I don't know what to pray
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by noticing what you do know about Jesus, even if everything else feels unclear. He is steady. He does not move. As the writer of Hebrews reminds us, Jesus Christ is "the same yesterday and today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8, ESV). In a moment where you feel uncertain about yourself, your path, or what comes next, His nature does not shift.
Take a breath and speak to Him about that steadiness. You might say something like, "Jesus, even though I don't know what to do, I know You are trustworthy. I know You care about me." Sit with that for a moment. What is one true thing about Jesus that holds firm, no matter what you're unsure about?

Confession
Now, gently turn toward the weight you're carrying. Uncertainty can breed worry, and worry can make us grip too tightly—trying to force clarity or control what we cannot. It might also make us doubt God's goodness or our own worth. There is no judgment here. Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). He invites the confused, the tired, the ones holding their breath.
What has your uncertainty tempted you toward? Anxiety? Rushing ahead? Withdrawing? Speaking harshly to someone? Simply name it to Jesus without defending it. "I've been...," you might begin. "I'm sorry for..." Let yourself be honest. His mercies are new, even in the middle of the day.

Thanksgiving
Even in not knowing, there are things to recognize and thank Jesus for. Perhaps it's that you are aware of your uncertainty rather than blindly stumbling. Perhaps it's a person who has steadied you, or a small provision that arrived when you needed it. Perhaps it's simply that you still have breath, still have another chance, still have Him.
The psalmist writes, "I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart" (Psalm 9:1, ESV)—not because everything is resolved, but because God Himself is worthy. Take a moment and voice something specific: "Thank you, Jesus, for..." It might be small. It might be simple. It belongs here.

My Concerns
Now ask. Tell Jesus what you need in this uncertainty. Do you need clarity about a specific decision? Peace to sit with not knowing for a while longer? Wisdom to take the next small step? Courage to trust even when you cannot see the full path? "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths" (Proverbs 3:5–6, ESV).
You do not need to figure everything out in this prayer time. But you can ask Jesus to guide you into your next right action, and to grow your trust one day at a time. You might pray, "Jesus, I don't know what to do about..., but I'm asking You to show me the next step" or "Help me trust You even when the path is unclear." Name what you are asking for, and then sit with the invitation to release the rest into His hands.
