Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to Jesus—the one who sees the whole picture when you can only see the next step. You might acknowledge His wisdom and steadiness. As Solomon discovered, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). Jesus invites you to trust that He is not surprised by your confusion or the weight of what you're facing. Take a moment to simply tell Him: what draws you toward Him right now? What do you admire about the way He leads people—His patience, His clarity, His faithfulness? Let yourself rest in the truth that He cares about the very thing you're wrestling with.
Confession
Midday can bring restlessness—the pull to decide quickly, to trust yourself more than Him, to move forward without waiting. Be honest about where you've already chosen your own path instead of asking first. You don't need to perform repentance here; just name it gently. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). There's also grace for the times you've doubted His guidance entirely, when His way seemed too slow or unclear. Speak to Jesus about the specific ways you've leaned on your own understanding instead of His. In this honesty, you'll find room to begin again.
Thanksgiving
Even in uncertainty, there is something to thank Him for. Perhaps it's a past moment when He made His will clear and you saw His faithfulness unfold. Maybe it's simply that He's willing to guide you at all—that you don't have to figure this out alone. "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths" (Proverbs 3:6, ESV). You might also give thanks for the people, resources, or signs of His presence that have steadied you. Take time to notice what He has already provided as you've walked toward this moment of seeking guidance. Gratitude prepares your heart to hear His voice more clearly.
My Concerns
Now bring the specific question or decision before Him. Don't rush—describe what you're facing and why it matters to you. What are you afraid of? What are you hoping for? Jesus wants you to be specific because specificity is how we truly invite Him into our lives. "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, ESV). Ask Him to show you what you cannot yet see. Request wisdom that feels both clear and peaceful—not frantic or doubting. You might also ask for courage to obey what He reveals and patience to wait if His timing is not your timing. End by telling Him: I'm listening. What would you have me know or do?
