Adoration
Begin by simply noticing who Jesus is in your uncertainty. He is not distant or confused about what you're facing — He sees the whole picture. As the psalmist writes, "Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them" (Psalm 139:16, ESV). Take a moment to talk to Jesus about His nature as the one who knows what lies ahead. You might tell Him: You see tomorrow. You know the way through this. I'm grateful that my confusion doesn't confuse You. Let yourself rest in His all-seeing love for a few breaths. There's no rush.
Confession
Now, gently bring any hesitation or resistance to light. Do you doubt that Jesus actually wants to guide you? Are you afraid His answer might not match what you hope for? Are you tempted to figure this out on your own rather than wait and listen? Jesus already knows these things—He's not surprised by them. As He reminds us through Paul, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, NIV). You don't have to hide your wariness or your tendency to grab control. Simply name it: Jesus, I confess that I sometimes want to be my own guide. I'm afraid that waiting for You feels too slow. Forgive me for doubting that Your way is better than mine. He meets confession with tenderness, not punishment.
Thanksgiving
Even in the middle of uncertainty, there is something to thank Jesus for. Perhaps it's that He's already guided you through past crossroads. Perhaps it's that you're not alone in this decision. Perhaps it's simply that He cares enough to slow you down at midday and ask you to listen. Thank Jesus for the ways He has shown up before. You might pray: Thank You, Jesus, that You've guided me faithfully in the past. Thank You that this decision matters to You because I matter to You. As it says in Proverbs, "In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:6, NIV). Gratitude opens your heart to hear Him more clearly. Let yourself dwell there.
My Concerns
Finally, ask Jesus to guide you with clarity and peace. Be specific if you can—name the decision or the area where you need direction. But don't feel pressured to have all the details figured out. Ask Him simply: Jesus, show me the next step. Give me clarity about this decision. Help me recognize Your voice in the quiet moments. Give me peace that goes beyond what makes sense to me right now. As Jesus Himself promises, "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it'" (Isaiah 30:21, NIV). Don't rush this part. Sometimes guidance comes as a whisper, not a shout. Stay open. Listen. Trust that He will lead you.
