Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to who Jesus is—the one who sees the whole picture when you can only see the next step. You might acknowledge that He is trustworthy, that His vision reaches beyond what you can perceive right now. As Scripture reminds us, "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1, ESV). There's something grounding about remembering that the one you're about to ask for direction is also the one who holds your future. Take a moment to tell Him: He is wise. He is patient. He is not surprised by your confusion. Let your heart settle on the truth that seeking His guidance is not weakness—it's wisdom.
Confession
Now bring the weight of uncertainty honestly before Him. You might confess where you've been trying to figure things out on your own, leaning on your own understanding instead of asking. There's no shame in admitting that—Jesus invites it. He tells us, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). If you've been anxious about making the wrong choice, tell Him that. If you've been rushing forward without truly seeking His voice, name it. He already knows, and He's waiting for you to be honest about it. Confession here isn't about guilt; it's about clearing the space between you and Him so you can hear His voice more clearly.
Thanksgiving
Even in the midst of uncertainty, there is much to thank Him for. You might thank Jesus for the ways He's guided you in the past—times when you look back and see His hand even when you didn't recognize it in the moment. Thank Him for giving you a mind that can think, a heart that can discern, and access to His wisdom through prayer. The Psalmist writes, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye upon you" (Psalm 32:8, ESV). That promise is yours. Thank Him that you don't have to navigate this alone, that seeking His guidance is itself an act of trust He honors. Let gratitude open your heart to receive what He wants to give you.
My Concerns
Here is where you bring your specific questions and needs. Be direct with Jesus about the decision or direction you're seeking. What matters most to you right now? What are you afraid of getting wrong? Ask Him to make His will clear to you—not in a way that eliminates your need to think and discern, but in a way that brings peace and alignment with His purpose. You might pray, "Show me the way forward. Help me sense where You're leading, even if it doesn't look like what I expected." Remember, Jesus said, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, ESV). Ask Him not just for the right answer, but for the peace that comes with trusting Him, whether the path becomes clear immediately or unfolds step by step. Thank Him in advance for the guidance He's already giving you.
