Midday Meetings: A Prayer for Clarity and Presence
A brief prayer guide to center yourself during the meeting season—whether you're preparing, in the middle of them, or recovering from back-to-backs. This guide helps you bring Jesus into the noise and find steadiness in the space between conversations.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Start by noticing what draws you to Jesus in this moment. Maybe it's his calm—how he moved through crowds without losing his center, how he never rushed a conversation that mattered. You might pray something like: "Jesus, I see your unhurried presence. Even when people pressed in from all sides, you stayed grounded in your Father. I want that kind of peace." Think about how Jesus sat with the Samaritan woman at the well, fully present to one person despite everything else around him. Let yourself sit with that image for a moment. What does his attentiveness do to your heart right now? Tell him.
Confession
Be honest about how the meetings are landing in you. Maybe you're feeling scattered, stretched too thin, or worried about saying the wrong thing. Or perhaps you're noticing impatience, that you're checking your phone instead of really listening. Jesus knows it all already, and he's not keeping score. As it says in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." There's no judgment here—just a chance to set down what's weighing on you. Tell Jesus where you've felt yourself slipping today, where you want to show up differently in the next conversation.
Thanksgiving
Pause and notice one small thing you're grateful for. Maybe it's a colleague who made you laugh. A decision that went well. Or simply that you made it this far through the day. Even the fact that you have these meetings—that people trust you, that your voice matters somewhere—that's worth acknowledging. Psalm 100:4 invites us to "Enter his gates with thanksgiving." Take a moment to thank Jesus for one specific thing from this morning or this day so far. It doesn't have to be big. It can be as simple as: "Thank you for this cup of coffee," or "Thank you that my boss heard me," or "Thank you that I still have one more chance to get this right."
My Concerns
Now bring Jesus your actual needs. If you're walking into another meeting, you might ask for clarity in your thinking, or courage to speak up, or the grace to really listen instead of planning your response. If you're between meetings, ask for a second wind, or for help letting go of something that didn't go well. If you're recovering from a long morning, ask for resilience. Jesus said in Matthew 7:7, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find." He means it. Tell him specifically what you need in the next hour, the rest of your day. Don't be shy. Ask him to help you carry what's heavy, to slow you down when you need slowing, to give you words when you're stuck.
