Midday Meetings: Finding Peace in the Present Moment
A brief prayer guide to help you pause between meetings, recenter your heart, and invite Jesus into the rhythms of your day. Whether you're heading into a difficult conversation, recovering from back-to-back schedules, or simply need a moment of stillness—this guide meets you right where you are.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Start by noticing Jesus' presence with you right now, in this moment between tasks. You don't have to wait for evening to meet him—he's already here. You might tell him what you notice about his character in this very hour: his patience that never runs out, his strength that holds everything together, his attentiveness to small moments like this one. As Paul wrote to the Philippians, "The Lord is near" (Philippians 4:5, ESV)—not distant, not waiting for a better time, but near to you in this meeting-filled day. Take a moment to speak directly to Jesus about one way you've sensed his steadiness today, even in the midst of busyness.
Confession
Midday can bring small frustrations and worn patience. You might notice irritation creeping in—impatience with someone's words, frustration at delays, anxiety about what's coming next. Rather than pushing these feelings away, bring them honestly to Jesus. There's no performance here, no need to pretend you're more at peace than you are. As the psalmist shows us, we can be honest about our struggles: "I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell of my trouble" (Psalm 142:2, ESV). What's weighing on you right now? Talk to Jesus about the small tensions or the bigger worries that meetings have stirred up. He's listening without judgment, and naming these things loosens their grip on your heart.
Thanksgiving
Even in a pressured day, there are gifts to notice. You might thank Jesus for the colleague who made you laugh, the problem that got solved, the coffee that warmed your hands, the fact that you're still standing and still capable. Thanksgiving doesn't require your entire day to feel perfect—it simply notices what's true and good alongside the difficulty. As Colossians reminds us, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful" (Colossians 3:15, ESV). Even one small thing counts. What's one thing—however small—that you can genuinely thank Jesus for in this day so far?
My Concerns
Now bring your real need to Jesus. You might ask for calm as you step into your next meeting, for words that are true and kind, for patience when frustration rises, for clarity on a decision you're wrestling with, or simply for the awareness to slow down and breathe. Jesus invites this directness: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, ESV). What do you most need from Jesus in the hours ahead? Don't minimize it or dress it up—just tell him. Ask him to meet you there, to give you what you genuinely need, and to help you carry the rest of this day with a steadier heart.
