Midday Pause: Drawing Near to Jesus

A gentle prayer guide to help you pause at midday and reconnect with Jesus. Whether your morning has been full or quiet, this guide invites you to bring your day so far—and the hours ahead—into conversation with him.

Midday Everyday life
5–12 min

Welcome. Take a few deep breaths and settle into this midday moment. Jesus is here with you, ready to listen.

Adoration

Begin by turning your attention to Jesus himself. You might start simply: thank him for who he is. He is faithful—he's been with you since you woke this morning, even in the moments you didn't notice. As the Psalms remind us, "Your faithfulness continues through all generations" (Psalm 119:90, ESV). Spend a moment naming what you love about him. Maybe it's his patience, his strength, his kindness. Maybe it's the way he notices the small things in your life. You don't need elaborate words—just honest ones. Talk to him about why he matters to you. Let your heart settle into the truth that he's not distant or distracted; he's attentive and close.

Confession

Now bring the weight of your day so far—or the weight you're carrying more broadly. Is there something you've done or left undone that sits with you? A harsh word, a selfish choice, a moment of doubt? You don't need to hide it from Jesus. He already knows, and he's not waiting to punish you. As John writes, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Take a moment to name what needs naming. Tell Jesus about it. And then—don't rush past this—let yourself receive his forgiveness. It's already yours. You can release what you've been carrying.

Thanksgiving

Even in an ordinary day, there is grace woven through. Look back at your morning or your week. What has God given you? A conversation that went well, a meal, a moment of rest, someone who showed you kindness, a problem that resolved, a breath in your lungs. Don't wait for the spectacular. The everyday gifts are just as real. The Psalmist says, "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever" (Psalm 107:1, ESV). Bring three or four things to mind—things seen and unseen—and thank Jesus for them. Let gratitude settle into your chest. It's a small but powerful shift in how you carry the rest of your day.

My Concerns

Finally, bring your needs before Jesus. What are you carrying into the afternoon? What are you worried about, or hoping for, or uncertain about? What do you need from him right now? He invites you to ask. As Paul reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, NIV). Talk to Jesus about the hours ahead. Ask for what you need—wisdom, peace, courage, patience, direction. Ask him to be present with you. You don't need perfect words. He understands the desires of your heart before you speak them.
