Midday Pause: Drawing Near to Jesus
A gentle prayer guide to help you step away from the busyness of your day and reconnect with Jesus. This midday pause invites you to offer your heart in adoration, honesty, gratitude, and dependence—exactly where you are right now.

Everyday life

Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to who Jesus is. You might start by noticing something true about him—his faithfulness, his presence, his gentleness. As the psalmist says, "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life to gaze on the beauty of the Lord" (Psalm 27:4, NIV). You don't need elaborate words. Perhaps you simply acknowledge: Jesus, you are here with me. You are worthy. You are good.
If a word comes to mind—faithful, merciful, patient, strong—let that word become your prayer. Speak it to him. Sit with it. Let yourself be filled with the reality that Jesus knows you by name and has made a way for you to approach him without fear.

Confession
Now, gently turn your attention inward. What weighs on your heart in this moment? Where do you know you've fallen short—not to condemn yourself, but to be honest with the one who already sees you completely. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV), and that invitation includes bringing your failures and struggles to him.
You might whisper a single word or name the specific thing you're carrying. There's no need for a long confession. Simply tell Jesus: I'm sorry. I need your forgiveness. And then pause. Let yourself receive what is true: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, NIV). You are forgiven. Not because you've earned it, but because he loves you.

Thanksgiving
Even in an ordinary midday, there is always something to be grateful for. Look around or inward: What has Jesus given you today? A breath. A moment of stillness. Someone's kindness. A meal. Safety. A second chance. The apostle Paul wrote, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV)—not because everything is perfect, but because Jesus is faithful through everything.
Name three things, large or small. "Thank you, Jesus, for..." Let gratitude warm your heart. Even in the middle of difficulty or ordinariness, you are held. You have been given more than you can count. Take a moment to let that sink in.

My Concerns
Now bring your needs to Jesus. What do you need from him right now? Strength for the afternoon ahead? Wisdom for a decision? Comfort in something difficult? Peace? Clarity? Jesus invites you into this: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, NIV). He is not distant or impatient with your asking.
Bring the weight you're carrying. Bring the hope you're holding. You might pray: Jesus, I need you to... or Help me to... or Guide me in... Then wait. Not for an answer you can measure, but for the quiet assurance that you have been heard. "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7, NIV). That peace is yours.
