Midday Pause: Meetings and Grace
A brief prayer guide for the middle of your day when meetings are weighing on you. Whether you're heading into a difficult conversation, recovering from back-to-back sessions, or navigating tension with colleagues, this guide helps you pause and bring your real self—and your real concerns—to Jesus.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Start by noticing who Jesus is in the midst of your day. He's not distant from the tension in conference rooms or the weight of unspoken words in video calls. Jesus was present in difficult conversations during his ministry—he knew how to speak truth, how to listen, how to hold space for people. As Paul writes, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13, NIV). That strength is available to you right now, in this moment between meetings. Take a breath and acknowledge: Jesus, you are present with me in this day. You understand what it means to be misunderstood, to navigate complex relationships, to speak into tension. You are my steadiness when everything else feels uncertain.
Confession
Now, name what's true about how you've shown up in meetings—or how you wish you'd shown up differently. Maybe you spoke too quickly. Maybe you stayed silent when you should have said something. Maybe frustration crept into your tone, or you felt defensive when someone questioned your work. There's no judgment here; Jesus already knows. As he says in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (NIV). The weariness is real, and sometimes our struggles with others come from our own depletion. You might pray: Jesus, I spoke with impatience today. I wasn't fully present because I was anxious about what comes next. I let fear shape how I listened. I'm laying this down with you—not because I'm ashamed, but because I want to be different. Help me see where I need your grace, not just my own effort.
Thanksgiving
Even in a day full of meetings, there's something to be grateful for. Maybe someone said something kind. Maybe a difficult conversation went better than you feared. Maybe you're simply grateful to be alive and conscious in this moment, able to pause. Philippians 4:4-6 reminds us, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (NIV). Thank Jesus for showing up. Thank him for the moments of clarity, the colleague who believed in you, the outcome you didn't expect. Thank him for this pause itself—for the chance to step out of the noise and remember what matters.
My Concerns
Bring your needs to Jesus now. If you have more meetings ahead, ask him to give you clarity of mind and a calm presence. If you're carrying tension from earlier conversations, ask for wisdom about how—or whether—to address it. If you're worried about how you're perceived, tell him that fear. Jesus doesn't need you to clean up your requests or phrase them perfectly. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, NIV). You might pray: Jesus, help me think clearly in the meeting at 2 PM. Give me words that are honest but kind. Help me listen more than I defend. If there's damage to repair, show me how. And if I can't control how someone responds to me, help me release that and trust you instead. Give me the courage to be myself and the humility to learn from others.
