Midday Pause: Prayer for Meetings
A brief prayer guide for the middle of your day when meetings feel pressing or draining. This is a chance to step back, remember whose you are, and invite Jesus into the rhythm of your afternoon.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Begin by remembering who Jesus is in the midst of your busy afternoon. He is not distant from your conference calls or conversations; He is present and attentive. You might pray something like: Jesus, You are Lord over every moment—even these meetings that feel urgent and consuming. You spoke the world into being with words, and You understand the weight of communication, of being heard, of needing to listen well. As it says in Proverbs 16:1, "The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord" (ESV). Your words matter to Him. He is not watching from a distance; He sees the tension in your shoulders, the flutter of nerves before you speak, the longing to say the right thing.
Take a moment to sit with this: Jesus cares about how you show up in this meeting. Not because He is critical, but because He loves you and wants your presence to reflect His peace, His wisdom, His kindness.

Confession
Now name what weighs on you. Maybe you came into this day hoping to impress someone, or you're carrying regret about something you said in an earlier conversation. Maybe you're anxious about being enough—smart enough, prepared enough, likable enough. Tell Jesus about it without dressing it up. He already knows, and He is not surprised by your doubt or your pride.
You might pray: Jesus, I confess that I often walk into meetings trying to prove myself instead of trusting You. I get tangled up in what others think, and I forget that my worth isn't on the line in this conference room—it's already secure in You. Help me release the grip I'm holding on the outcome. As Paul writes in Philippians 4:6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (NIV). I want that peace, not just the approval.

Thanksgiving
Before you ask for anything, pause and give thanks for what is already true. Thank Jesus for the opportunity to be in this meeting, for the people around the table (even the difficult ones), for any preparation you've already done, for the clarity or strength you've felt at any point today.
You might say: Thank you, Jesus, that I'm not facing this afternoon alone. Thank you for the gifts and perspective You've given me to bring to this work. Thank you that my identity doesn't rest on this meeting's outcome—it rests on You. As 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 reminds us, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (ESV). Even in the middle of a full schedule, I'm grateful.

My Concerns
Now bring your honest requests to Jesus. Ask for the clarity you need, the words that will serve others well, the courage to speak up or the wisdom to listen more. Ask Him to help you see your colleagues as He sees them—as people with their own fears and hopes. Ask for patience with the process, even if it feels slow or circular.
You might pray: Jesus, I need Your help. Give me clarity about what matters most in this conversation. Help me listen well and speak truthfully, not just convincingly. If I'm walking in, give me calm. If I'm about to stay silent when I should speak, give me courage. And help me remember that the outcome of this meeting isn't about me—it's about serving the people in the room and the work You've called us to do. Keep my heart from grasping for control, and help me trust Your hand in what unfolds. As you wait for Him to work, know that He is already moving.
