Midday Pause with Jesus
A gentle prayer guide to pause in the middle of your day and reconnect with Jesus. Whether you're between tasks, catching your breath, or simply wanting to step away for a few moments, this guide invites you to bring the morning's weight and the afternoon's unknowns to him.
Midday
Everyday life
5–10 min
Adoration
Start by noticing something true about who Jesus is. You might think about his faithfulness—how he has held you this morning and will hold you through the rest of the day. As the psalmist writes, "Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds" (Psalm 36:5, ESV). You don't need grand words. Simply acknowledge his presence: his gentleness, his wisdom, his unhurried way of being with you. Talk to him about what you see in him right now. What draws your heart toward him in this moment?
Confession
Now bring the truth of your morning to Jesus. Where have you felt rushed, impatient, or pulled in too many directions? Where did you speak words you wish you could take back, or stay silent when you might have shown kindness? Jesus already knows—this isn't about hiding. It's about being honest. He invites you into that honesty: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Name what weighs on you. Then tell him you believe he hears you and that his mercy is new right now, in this midday moment.
Thanksgiving
Look back at the hours already behind you. Where did you see God's hand? Perhaps in a conversation that went better than expected, a small kindness you witnessed or received, a task completed, or simply breath in your lungs. Maybe it was harder than that—maybe you're grateful simply that you're still here, still trying, still reaching for him. "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, ESV). Take time to name these gifts, large and small. Thank Jesus for seeing you and for meeting you where you are.
My Concerns
Bring the rest of your day to him. What are you walking toward this afternoon? Where do you need his help, his wisdom, his peace? Maybe it's a conversation you're dreading, work that feels overwhelming, or simply the grace to slow down and stay present. You don't need to have it all figured out—just lay it before him. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6–7, ESV). Ask him to lead you, to calm you, to remind you of his presence in whatever comes next.
