Adoration
Begin by settling into the quietness of this early hour. There's something about morning that reminds us we're not starting from scratch—Jesus is already awake, already aware of what lies ahead. Spend a moment recognizing His faithfulness to you. In Proverbs, you're told that "the LORD establishes the steps of a man" (Proverbs 16:9, ESV). He isn't distant or disinterested. He knows the path before you do. Talk to Him about who He is—the one who sees all things, who never moves in darkness, who holds wisdom like a well you can draw from. You might mention His steadiness, His care, His proven faithfulness in your life.
Confession
Morning is a good time to be honest. Is there hesitation in your heart about what's ahead? Confusion? Fear about making a wrong choice? Maybe you've been holding back from asking Him, thinking you should figure it out alone. Jesus invites you to lay that down. He tells His followers, "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV)—and that includes the weariness of trying to navigate alone. Take a moment to admit where you're uncertain, where you've doubted His guidance, or where you haven't fully trusted Him to lead. Don't rush this. Let yourself be honest about what's really on your heart.
Thanksgiving
Thank Jesus for the gift of a new day—literally a fresh start, a blank canvas for His guidance to unfold. Thank Him for times He has guided you before, even if you didn't recognize it at the moment. As you reflect, you might recall decisions that turned out well, doors that opened, or moments when you felt His gentle redirection. David wrote, "I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14, ESV), and that same God who made you knows exactly how to guide you. Speak your gratitude for His presence, for His promise to never leave you, and for the privilege of asking Him directly. This isn't about perfecting your gratitude—it's simply acknowledging His goodness.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific need. What decision are you facing? What direction are you seeking? Lay it before Jesus without editing or over-explaining. He already knows. Ask Him for clarity—not necessarily an instant answer, but a sense of peace about the next right step. In James, you're promised that "if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach" (James 1:5, ESV). Ask Him to quiet the noise of doubt and fear. Ask Him to show you His heart about what's ahead. Ask Him to align your desires with His will, so that what you want and what He wants become one. You might also ask for courage—for the willingness to follow wherever His guidance leads, even if it's not what you expected. End by committing this day and these decisions to Him, inviting Him to be Lord of the details as well as the big picture.
