Morning Guidance: Seeking Jesus's Direction for Your Day
A gentle morning prayer to invite Jesus into the decisions and uncertainties ahead. This guide helps you lay out what you're facing and listen for His wisdom as your day begins.

Adoration
Begin by simply noticing who Jesus is in this moment. He is the One who knows the end from the beginning, who sees the paths ahead more clearly than you ever could. As you sit with this truth, you might pray something like: Thank you, Jesus, that you are not distant or confused about what I'm facing. You are wisdom itself. The book of Proverbs reminds us, "The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6, ESV). Let that settle into your chest — not just as a nice idea, but as a real invitation. He is already present in your uncertainty. Spend a moment just acknowledging His steadiness. Maybe it's "Jesus, I trust that you see what I cannot." Or simply, "You know." Let your words be small and true.
Confession
Now, gently bring into the light anything that's keeping you from fully listening to His guidance. Maybe it's fear that He won't guide you the way you hope. Maybe it's a reluctance to follow even if you do hear Him clearly. Maybe it's impatience — wanting the answer now rather than the process He may be inviting you through. There's no shame here; Jesus already knows what you're about to name. As it says in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (ESV). You might simply say, "I'm afraid of getting this wrong," or "I'm not sure I want to hear what you might ask of me." Let it come out. He is listening, and His response to you is always rooted in love, not judgment.
Thanksgiving
Before you ask for direction, pause and notice what you already know about Jesus's faithfulness. Has He guided you before? Even in small ways — moments when you sensed His leading and followed it? Or times when His guidance surprised you because it was better than what you'd planned? Give thanks for those. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13, ESV) — and that includes following His guidance when it comes. You might also thank Him for the very fact that you get to ask. That He invites your questions. That He doesn't leave you orphaned in your uncertainty. Gratitude opens your heart to hear Him more clearly.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific situation to Him. What decision or direction do you need wisdom for today? Name it plainly — not in perfect words, just in honest ones. Then ask. "Jesus, I'm facing... and I don't know which way is right. Show me. Guide my steps. Help me sense Your leading." You might also ask Him for patience if the answer isn't immediate, or for courage if you're pretty sure what He's calling you toward but fear is holding you back. James 1:5 says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (NIV). He is not stingy with His guidance. He gives generously. So ask generously. Ask specifically. And then — this matters — stay quiet for a moment. Not to hear an audible voice necessarily, but to sense the gentle stirring of His Spirit, the quiet knowing that sometimes rises up when we make space for it. You might journal what comes. You might simply sit with it. Trust that He is answering, even if the full picture isn't clear yet.
