Adoration
Start by settling into this new day with Jesus. There's something beautiful about morning — it's a fresh threshold, a chance to remember that He is already awake, already thinking about what lies ahead of you. Spend a moment noticing His character. He is not distant or withholding wisdom. As James writes, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). Jesus invites you into that generosity. You might whisper to Him: What draws me to trust you with today's decisions? Tell Him what you admire about His nature — His patience, His clarity, His faithfulness. You could even thank Him simply for being awake with you right now, aware of every choice you'll face. Let your adoration be genuine and unhurried; there's no rush. Jesus is listening.
Confession
Before you move forward, there's something freeing about being honest with Jesus about where you feel stuck or uncertain. Maybe you've been trying to figure things out on your own, leaning on your own understanding instead of asking Him first. That's not failure — that's human. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5, NIV) — those words exist because we all drift toward self-reliance. If you've ignored a whisper from His Spirit, or chosen comfort over obedience, name that gently. If you're carrying fear about making the wrong choice, bring that too. Jesus doesn't condemn you for your uncertainty; He comes close to it. Take a moment and tell Him what's true: where have you been carrying this burden alone? What would it mean to hand it to Him? You don't need perfect words — just honest ones.
Thanksgiving
Even in the midst of uncertainty, there is always something to be grateful for. Look around at this morning — the fact that you woke, that you have a new day, that you can ask for help at all. "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV). You might thank Jesus for past times He has guided you, moments when His direction became clear and you saw His faithfulness. Thank Him for the people around you, for the resources you have, for the time itself. Thank Him for caring enough about your small decisions to invite you into conversation about them. Gratitude doesn't require that everything be resolved — it simply acknowledges that He is good, and that He is with you. Spend a few moments naming what you're grateful for, even the little things.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific need for guidance into the open. Be direct with Jesus. What decision are you facing? What feels unclear? "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). You don't have to have your question perfectly formed — Jesus understands the shape of what you're asking even when words fail. Ask Him to make the wise path clearer to you. Ask Him to quiet the noise of fear or pressure so you can hear His voice. You might ask for wisdom to see what matters most, or courage to obey if His direction requires something hard. Ask Him to guide not just this one decision, but to teach you how to follow Him more closely. Then pause. Sometimes guidance comes as a sudden knowing; sometimes it unfolds slowly through the day. Either way, you're inviting Him in. That's enough.
