Morning Light: Seeking Guidance for the Day Ahead
A prayer guide to help you begin your day by bringing your questions and choices to Jesus, asking for wisdom and direction as you move into what lies ahead.

Adoration
Start by settling into the quiet of morning. Before you bring your questions, just be with Jesus for a moment. Notice His presence — He is already awake, already thinking about your day. You might pray something like: "Jesus, I come to You in this stillness, grateful that You are here with me before anything else demands my attention." As the writer of Proverbs reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5-6, ESV) — and that trust begins by recognizing that He is trustworthy, that His character is solid and true. He has never left anyone who turned to Him. Spend a moment naming one thing about Jesus that steadies you — His faithfulness, His gentleness, His wisdom. Let that become the ground beneath your feet as the day begins.
Confession
The morning is a good time to be honest about yesterday and about right now. You might bring to Jesus any moment when you acted without asking Him, when you rushed ahead or held back out of fear. There's no shame in that — it's simply human. As Paul writes, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Bring Him any anxiety about the decisions ahead of you too. Sometimes we carry worry as if it were wisdom, and He invites us to lay that down. Tell Him honestly: "I want to trust You today. I notice I'm afraid of getting it wrong, and I'm releasing that to You." He doesn't condemn you for the fear — He simply asks you to name it and hand it over.
Thanksgiving
Even in uncertainty, there is something to be grateful for. You might thank Jesus for the gift of a new morning — the chance to begin again, to try again, to walk with Him into something you cannot yet see. Thank Him for the people who surround you, the experience and wisdom you've already gathered, the small mercies of the night that has passed. "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, ESV). Gratitude and trust are woven together. As you name what you're grateful for, you're strengthening your belief that He is good and that He can be trusted with what comes next.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific need to Jesus. What decision is before you? What direction are you uncertain about? Be as specific as you can. You might pray: "Jesus, I'm facing this choice, and I don't know which way to turn. I ask for Your guidance — show me the next step." Jesus told His disciples, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, ESV). He isn't annoyed by your questions; He invites them. Ask Him to make the path clear — through a sense of peace, through Scripture that speaks to you, through wise counsel, through circumstances that unfold. Ask Him also for courage to follow what He shows you, even if it's not what you expected. Then pause. Listen. Let there be space for Him to speak or simply to settle your heart. Sometimes the answer comes in a rush of clarity; sometimes it comes as a gradual deepening of peace. Both are His voice.
