Morning Meetings: Finding Courage and Clarity

A prayer guide for the morning before important meetings. This guide helps you bring your nervousness, hopes, and need for wisdom to Jesus—and to leave the meeting in his hands rather than carrying it alone.

Morning Before a big moment
5–10 min

Good morning. Before you step into your day and into those meetings, pause here. Jesus is already waiting in the room ahead of you.

Adoration

Begin by remembering who Jesus is before you think about what's ahead. He is not nervous about your meetings. He is not surprised by what will be said. As Proverbs tells us, "The Lord establishes the steps of a man whose way he delights in" (Psalm 37:23, ESV)—and your steps today are included in that. Take a moment to speak to Jesus about his steadiness, his presence in rooms you cannot control, his wisdom that surpasses every conversation you'll have. You might pray something like: "Jesus, you are here. You already know how this meeting will go. I'm grateful that I don't have to figure everything out alone." Let yourself settle into the truth that he has been in countless rooms before, and he is in this one with you.

Confession

It's easy to walk into a meeting carrying fear—fear of saying the wrong thing, of being judged, of disappointing someone. You might feel the weight of needing to prove yourself or control how others see you. Bring that to Jesus honestly. He already knows it's there. As it says in 1 Peter, "Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). There's no judgment in his presence for admitting you're afraid or that you've rehearsed what you'll say so many times you've lost sleep. You might pray: "Jesus, I'm carrying worry I wasn't made to carry. I want to trust you instead of trying to manage everything myself. Help me let go." Speak whatever burden is real for you—he's listening.

Thanksgiving

Even before the meeting happens, there is something to be grateful for. You have a voice. You have something to contribute. You have people in your life or work who matter to you—and that's why the meeting feels important. Thank Jesus for the gift of being able to show up, to think, to speak. As Colossians reminds us, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts... And be thankful" (Colossians 3:15, ESV). You might also thank him for past meetings that went well, for times he's guided you through difficult conversations, for the competence or kindness he's given you to bring into the room. Take a moment: "Thank you, Jesus, for the chance to be here and to be part of this. Thank you that you're already working in ways I can't see."

My Concerns

Now bring your specific needs. Ask Jesus for clarity—not necessarily to know exactly what will happen, but to think clearly in the moment. Ask for gentleness in how you speak, so your words are honest and kind. Ask for the ability to listen well. If you're worried about a particular moment or conversation, name it: "Help me know what to say when..." or "Give me courage to speak up about..." Jesus promises in Matthew, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach" (James 1:5, ESV). You don't have to have all the answers before you walk in. Ask him to guide you as you go. Close this part by releasing the outcome: "Jesus, I'm asking you for what I need. And I'm trusting you with how this unfolds, even if it doesn't go the way I hope."
