Pause in the Middle: A Midday Prayer for Meetings
A brief prayer guide to help you step back from the rush of meetings and reconnect with Jesus in the middle of your day. Whether you're between calls, sitting in a waiting room, or taking a moment at your desk, this guide helps you bring the weight of your day—and the people in it—to Jesus.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Start by noticing Jesus's presence with you, even in the hurry. He's not distant from the meetings, the conversations, the decisions happening around you—He's close. You might say something like: "Jesus, I see You in this moment. You're steady when everything else feels scattered. You're present in the noise and the waiting." Think of how He sat with people in crowds, in rooms full of voices, never overwhelmed, always attentive. As the psalmist reminds us, "The Lord is near to all who call on him" (Psalm 145:18, ESV). Take a moment to simply acknowledge that nearness—that He hears you even now, in the middle of your midday.
Confession
Be honest about what's sitting heavy in your chest from the morning, or what you're dreading in the afternoon ahead. Maybe you spoke too sharply in a meeting. Maybe you're anxious about something you need to say. Maybe you're carrying frustration or feeling unheard. Jesus invites you to name it without shame: "I'm struggling with..." or "I'm worried that..." or "I wish I had handled that differently." You don't have to perform competence or calm here. As Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). That includes the weariness of the workday. Bring it to Him as it is.
Thanksgiving
Even in a full day, there are small things worth noticing. A conversation that went better than expected. A colleague who made you laugh. A task completed. The fact that you still have breath in your lungs and a chance to begin again. You might pray: "I'm grateful for..." and name one or two things—they don't have to be big. Paul wrote, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4, ESV). In the middle of meetings and deadlines, that joy is still available to you. Let it surface, even for a moment.
My Concerns
Now bring the rest of your day to Jesus. The meeting still ahead. The person you need to talk to. The decision you're uncertain about. The relationships that matter. You might pray: "Jesus, I need wisdom for..." or "Help me to speak with kindness when..." or "Guide me in how to..." He cares about your work, your words, and the people you'll encounter this afternoon. As He promised, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault" (James 1:5, ESV). Ask Him. He's listening, and He's invested in how your day unfolds.
