Pause in the Middle: A Midday Prayer for Meetings
A brief prayer guide to help you step back from the busyness of meetings and reconnect with Jesus in the middle of your day. Whether you're between back-to-back sessions, sitting in a waiting room, or taking a quiet moment at your desk, this guide helps you bring the weight of your interactions to Him and find clarity and peace.
Midday
Before a big moment
5–10 min
Adoration
Start by noticing what's true about Jesus right now, even in the midst of your full calendar. He is not rushed. He is not stressed by the number of people who need Him or the decisions they bring to Him. As it says in Isaiah, "His understanding is infinite" (Isaiah 147:5, ESV). You might pause and tell Jesus: I see that You are patient. You are present. You are not overwhelmed by anything I'm facing today. You don't need me to hurry or perform—You simply want me. Thank Him for meeting you here, in this ordinary moment, without needing you to be anywhere else first.
Confession
Now bring your heart honestly before Him. In the midst of meetings and conversations, where have you felt the pull to be someone other than yourself? Maybe you were defensive when challenged, or you held back something true because you were afraid. Maybe you rushed through a conversation, or you caught yourself caring more about being right than about the person across from you. Jesus invites you to name these things without shame. As He tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). Take a moment to speak honestly about one way you stumbled today, and then receive the kindness of His forgiveness. You are not defined by that moment—you are defined by His grace.
Thanksgiving
Even in a day packed with meetings, there are gifts. Look around: Maybe someone listened well. Maybe a decision moved forward. Maybe you had a moment of genuine connection, or you said something true that you're glad you said. You might thank Jesus for the people around you—for their presence, their effort, their humanity. Thank Him for giving you the capacity to show up, to think, to speak. As Paul writes, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). Even in the ordinary—even in meetings—He is working, and He is good. Take a moment to name three small things you're grateful for today.
My Concerns
Now bring your needs to Him. You might ask for clarity in a decision that's pending. You might ask for patience in a difficult conversation that's coming. You might ask for wisdom to know when to speak and when to listen, or for courage to say something hard. Jesus says, "Ask, and it will be given to you" (Matthew 7:7, ESV). He is not annoyed by your asking. He invites it. You might also ask Him to help you carry the weight of what other people brought to you today—their concerns, their hopes, their pressure. Ask Him to remind you, as you head back into your afternoon, that you are not carrying anyone alone. He is with you and with them. Speak freely about what you need from Him in the hours ahead.
