Peace in the Present Moment
A midday prayer guide for when anxiety feels heavy. You'll bring your worried thoughts to Jesus and find your way back to what's true and steady right now.
Midday
Feeling anxious
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by noticing Jesus' presence with you right now, in this very moment. You don't have to feel it to know it's real. The apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians in a time of his own distress: "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice" (Philippians 4:4, ESV). Not because everything is fine—but because He is. Take a breath and whisper to Jesus something you know about Him that is solid and true. Maybe it's that He is faithful. Maybe it's that He sees you. Maybe it's simply that He is here. Let that one true thing settle for a moment.
Confession
Anxiety often makes us feel like we're failing—like we should be stronger, or calmer, or more faithful. You might be carrying some of that weight right now. But here's what matters: bring it to Jesus as it is. Tell Him about the worry you're carrying, the what-ifs spinning in your mind, the racing thoughts you can't seem to slow. He already knows—He's not surprised or disappointed. As Scripture reminds us, "Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7, ESV). There's nothing shameful in saying it aloud. You might even tell Him where you don't trust Him yet, or where it's hard to believe He's good. That honesty is how we move toward freedom.
Thanksgiving
Even while anxiety is present, there are true things happening around you right now. You might thank Jesus for breath in your lungs, for the ground beneath you, for one person who loves you, for a moment of quiet if you have one. You might be grateful for the very fact that you're turning toward Him instead of away. As the Psalmist says, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24, ESV)—not the day you imagined, maybe, but this actual day with His mercies in it. Thank Him for small steadinesses. Thank Him for meeting you right here.
My Concerns
Now ask Jesus for what you need. Ask Him for peace—not the absence of worry, but His presence alongside it. You might pray something like: "Help me believe that You are trustworthy even when I don't feel it. Calm my racing mind. Help me focus on what's real and true right now, not on what might happen. Give me one step forward, just one, that I can take today." Jesus invites this directly: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV). Ask boldly. Ask specifically. And ask Him to remind you—again and again if needed—that you are not alone in this.
