Midday
Need direction
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by remembering who you're speaking to. Jesus doesn't just answer questions; He is the way itself. Take a moment to acknowledge His character—His wisdom that sees what you cannot, His faithfulness in every turn of your life so far. You might pray something like: "Jesus, I trust that You know the path ahead even when I cannot see it. You are wise beyond measure, and You care about the details of my life." As James reminds us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). The invitation to ask is open. Jesus doesn't withhold good gifts from those who seek Him.
Confession
Now, gently bring any barriers between you and clarity. Sometimes we hesitate to follow God's direction because we're afraid of what it might cost, or we're holding tightly to our own plans. You don't need to name every doubt—just be honest. You might say: "Jesus, I confess that I sometimes trust my own judgment more than Yours. I admit I'm afraid of where this might lead." There's no shame in that admission. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). Weariness and fear don't disqualify you from His guidance; they're often exactly what brings us to Him.
Thanksgiving
Even in uncertainty, there is much to be grateful for. Take a moment to thank Jesus for the ways He has guided you before—times when His direction proved trustworthy, people He's placed in your path, doors He's opened or closed. You might pray: "Thank You, Jesus, for showing me the way in the past. Thank You for caring about this decision as much as I do. Thank You for the people and resources You've already provided." As Paul writes, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4, NIV). Gratitude opens our hearts to see His guidance more clearly—it shifts us from anxiety to trust.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific need. Be direct with Jesus. Tell Him what you're wrestling with, where you need direction, what you're hoping for. Ask Him to make His path clear—through Scripture, through wise counsel, through circumstances, through the peace of His Spirit. You might pray: "Jesus, I need Your wisdom about this. Show me the next step. Give me clarity and courage to follow wherever You lead." Remember Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (NIV). He doesn't promise you'll see the entire road at once—just the next faithful step. Ask Him for that, and listen for how He might speak in the hours ahead.
