Adoration
Start by turning your attention to who Jesus is. He is not distant or uncertain; He knows the full landscape of your day before you do. Take a moment to acknowledge His faithfulness in guiding you before. You might pray something like: "Jesus, You are trustworthy. You see what I cannot see, and You care about the details of my life." As the psalmist writes, "I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, for no one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame" (Psalm 25:2, NIV). Let that truth settle into your heart—He has guided others before you, and He is present this morning too. Spend a few moments simply recognizing His character: His wisdom, His care, His perfect knowledge of what you're facing.
Confession
Now, gently bring any hesitation or doubt to Jesus. Perhaps you're afraid of making the wrong choice, or you've rushed ahead without waiting for His direction before. Maybe you've leaned on your own understanding instead of seeking His counsel. There's no judgment here—only honesty. You might say: "Jesus, I confess that I sometimes move forward without asking You. I'm afraid, and that fear has kept me from truly waiting on You." The beautiful promise is this: as Paul wrote, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). He doesn't shame you for asking. He invites it. Take a breath and name what's kept you from seeking His guidance—and let it go.
Thanksgiving
Before you ask, pause to give thanks. Thank Jesus for how He has guided you in the past—for the closed doors that protected you, the open ones that blessed you, the still, small voice that whispered direction when you needed it. You might pray: "Jesus, I'm grateful You've never left me without a way forward. Thank You for caring about this decision as much as I do." Reflect on moments when His guidance became clear—maybe through Scripture, through wise counsel, through circumstance, or through a deep sense of peace. "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1, NIV). His guidance is not a luxury; it's a gift He delights to give. Thank Him for making Himself available to you.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific need to Him. Tell Jesus exactly what you're trying to discern or decide. Don't hide the complexity or the stakes. You might say: "I need to know what direction to take with... Help me see clearly. Give me wisdom. Show me the next right step." As you speak your need, remember that Jesus invites this: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, NIV). Ask Him not just for an answer, but for peace as you wait for it. Ask for discernment—the ability to recognize His voice amid the noise. Ask for courage to follow where He leads, even if it's unexpected. And ask for patience: sometimes His guidance unfolds slowly, and that unfolding is part of His kindness. End by committing to listen—to watch for His answer through Scripture, through counsel, through circumstance, and through the quiet knowing of His Spirit.
