Seeking Guidance This Morning
A prayer guide to help you bring your questions and uncertainties before Jesus at the start of your day, inviting His wisdom into the decisions and directions ahead of you.
Morning
Need direction
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by noticing that Jesus is already awake with you this morning. He knows what you're facing today, and He is not surprised by your need for direction. You might start by simply telling Him what draws you to trust Him—maybe it's His faithfulness in the past, or the way His voice cuts through confusion. As Scripture reminds us, 'In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight' (Proverbs 3:6, ESV). Jesus doesn't hoard His wisdom; He gives it freely to those who ask. Take a moment to acknowledge His character as the One who sees the whole picture when you can only see the next step. Tell Him what you admire about how He moves and guides—His patience, His timing, His gentleness even when the way is unclear.
Confession
Sometimes seeking guidance gets tangled with worry, doesn't it? You might bring to Jesus any anxiety you're carrying—the fear that you'll choose wrong, or the weight of trying to figure everything out on your own. There's no judgment in naming these things. As Jesus Himself said, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest' (Matthew 11:28, ESV). If you've been leaning on your own understanding instead of inviting Him into your discernment, tell Him that too. You might also confess places where you've doubted His goodness or questioned whether He actually cares about the ordinary details of your life. He does. This is the place to set down what's been weighing on your heart so you can approach the day lighter and clearer.
Thanksgiving
Even before you know which direction to take, there is something to be grateful for: Jesus has never left you stranded before. Look back for a moment. Can you see times when He guided you, even through confusion? Thank Him for those moments—for the doors He opened, the doors He closed, the people He placed in your path. You might give thanks for His patience with your questions, or for the fact that He doesn't require you to have everything figured out before the day begins. The Psalmist writes, 'The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?' (Psalm 27:1, ESV). Thank Him for being a light in uncertainty. Thank Him too for today itself—for waking up, for this quiet time to seek Him, for the privilege of asking Him anything at all.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific questions to Him. What decision or direction are you uncertain about? Don't soften it or make it sound more polished than it feels—just tell Jesus what you need guidance on, whether it's large or small. Ask Him to quiet the noise in your mind so you can recognize His voice when He speaks. You might pray words like these: 'Jesus, I'm not sure which way to go, and I need Your wisdom. Show me what You want me to see. Still my racing thoughts and help me listen.' As James writes, 'If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault' (James 1:5, ESV). Ask Him to make His direction clear—through Scripture, through wise counsel, through circumstances, through the peace that settles in your chest when you're aligned with His will. Ask Him also to give you patience with the process; not all guidance comes in a flash, and that's okay. Ask Him to help you trust Him even when you don't yet see the full path ahead.
