Seeking Guidance This Morning

A prayer guide for the early hours when you need clarity and direction. Take time to bring your questions to Jesus and listen for his wisdom as your day unfolds.

Morning Need direction
5–12 min

Welcome. You're bringing something to Jesus this morning that needs light. Let's sit with him and ask for the wisdom you need.

Adoration

Start by simply noticing who Jesus is—the one who sees the whole picture when you can only see the next step. He doesn't ask you to figure everything out before dawn breaks. As the psalmist says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105, ESV). Jesus doesn't just give directions; he walks with you into the unknown. Take a moment to tell him: what do you love about how he leads? You might praise him for times he's guided you before, or simply acknowledge that he is trustworthy even when the way ahead feels unclear.

Confession

Bring your doubts and fears into the light. Maybe you've been trying to solve this alone, or second-guessing what you sense he's already shown you. Perhaps you're afraid of making the wrong choice. There's no shame in this—Jesus invites you to lay it down. He says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). Take time to name where you've been carrying weight you weren't meant to carry. Talk to him about the places you've relied on your own understanding instead of turning to ask him. He's listening, and he's not disappointed by your uncertainty.

Thanksgiving

Look back, even briefly, at times Jesus has guided you well. Maybe it was a small moment yesterday, or a larger turning point you still remember. Thank him for how he showed up then. Give thanks too for the people, words, or circumstances he's already placed in your life that might speak into this very situation. As Paul reminds us, "And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work" (2 Corinthians 9:8, ESV). You might thank him for the quiet of this morning, or for the fact that you're asking instead of assuming. Gratitude opens your heart to notice his leading more clearly.

My Concerns

Now ask. Be specific about what you need guidance on—the decision, the direction, the next conversation, the timing. Tell Jesus what you're wrestling with. Ask him to make his way clear: not necessarily through a loud voice, but through his peace, through wise counsel, through closed and opened doors, through the deepening sense of what aligns with his character. Jesus said, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, ESV). Ask for courage to follow what he shows you, even if it's different than what you expected. And ask for patience—sometimes guidance unfolds across days or weeks, not minutes. Close by asking him to quiet the noise in your mind so you can notice his voice as your day moves forward.
