Adoration
Start by turning your attention to Jesus himself—not yet to your question, but to who He is. You might acknowledge that He is trustworthy, that His vision for your life extends far beyond what you can see this morning. The psalmist writes, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105, ESV). Jesus doesn't ask you to see the whole road ahead; He only asks you to trust the one who does. Spend a moment simply recognizing His faithfulness in your past—times when He led you even when the way wasn't clear. Thank Him for being the kind of God who cares about the details of your day.
Confession
Now, gently bring any hesitation or doubt to Him. Do you struggle to trust that His guidance will actually come? Have you been trying to figure things out alone, leaning on your own understanding? That's not a failure—it's human. Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, NIV). He's inviting you to lay down the weight of needing to have all the answers. If you've been anxious or impatient, pushing ahead without waiting for wisdom, name that too. There's no shame here—only the relief of being honest with someone who already knows your heart.
Thanksgiving
Take a moment to notice small ways Jesus has guided you already—perhaps through a conversation, a passage you read, a sense of peace, or even closed doors that redirected you. Thank Him for those nudges and breadcrumbs. You might pray, "Jesus, I'm grateful that You haven't left me to figure this out alone." As Paul reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, NIV). Gratitude itself opens your heart to receive what He wants to show you.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific question or decision before Him. Don't rush this part—speak it out loud if you can. "Jesus, I need guidance about..." and name it honestly. Ask Him to make His will clear to you, not in your timeline, but in His. You might ask Him to speak through His Word, through wise counsel, through circumstances, through a quiet inner knowing. Invite the Holy Spirit to calm your mind so you can hear. Jesus promised, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). Ask Him to align your desires with His—that you would want what He wants, even before you fully understand it. End by releasing the outcome to Him. "I'm trusting You with this, Jesus. Show me the next step."
