Seeking Guidance This Morning
A morning prayer to bring your questions and uncertainties to Jesus, inviting Him to show you the way forward with clarity and peace.

Need direction
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to who Jesus is—not primarily to solve your dilemma, but simply to meet Him. He is the one who sees the whole picture when you see only the next step. As the psalmist writes, "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1, ESV). Before you ask for direction, let yourself rest in the truth that He is trustworthy. Spend a moment acknowledging His wisdom—how He knows what tomorrow holds, how He has guided your life even in seasons when you couldn't see the plan. You might pray something like: "Jesus, You are wise beyond measure. You see my whole story. I come before You this morning as someone who trusts that You care about the path I'm walking."
Confession
Now, gently turn to any ways you might be resisting His guidance. Perhaps you're afraid of what He might ask. Perhaps you already sense a direction but you're hesitant to take it. Perhaps you've been trying to figure everything out on your own strength. There's no shame in any of this—Jesus knows your heart before you speak. As He tells us, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, ESV). Bring those hesitations honestly. You might pray: "I confess that sometimes I'm afraid to follow where You lead. I sometimes trust my own understanding more than Your wisdom. Help me lay down my resistance." Let yourself be honest here. This is not about guilt; it's about clearing the way for Him to speak.
Thanksgiving
Take a moment to recall times when Jesus has guided you well—moments when His direction proved right, or times when He protected you even when you didn't see it at the time. Thank Him for the guidance He's already given. As Paul writes, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him" (Romans 8:28, ESV). He has been faithful before, and He will be faithful again. You might pray: "I'm grateful that You've guided me this far. Thank You for the wisdom You've already shown me, for the doors You've opened and closed, for caring enough about my life to lead me closer to You." Let gratitude settle over you—it opens your heart to hear Him more clearly.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific question or decision to Jesus. Be direct. Tell Him what you're facing and ask Him to show you the way forward. Jesus invites this kind of honest asking: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, ESV). You don't need the perfect words—just speak what's on your heart. You might pray: "I'm facing [name the decision or situation]. I need to know which direction to take. Show me Your will. Give me clarity and courage to follow it." Then pause. Sit quietly for a moment. Guidance often comes not as a voice but as a growing peace about one direction, a sense of alignment with Scripture, a word from a trusted friend, or a gentle conviction. Ask Him to speak in whatever way He chooses. You might also pray: "Help me recognize Your guidance when it comes. Quiet my anxiety so I can hear You. Give me the courage to follow, even when it's difficult."
