Seeking Guidance This Morning
A prayer guide to help you bring your questions and decisions to Jesus at the start of your day, asking for clarity and direction as you move forward.
Morning
Need direction
5–12 min
Adoration
Begin by turning your attention to who Jesus is—not primarily what you need from Him, but who He is in Himself. Jesus knows the way forward because He sees what you cannot. As you sit with Him this morning, remind yourself: "The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable" (Isaiah 40:28, ESV). Take a moment to talk to Him about His faithfulness in your past. When has He guided you before? How has He proven trustworthy? You might simply say, "Jesus, I know you see the whole picture. I trust that you care about where I'm heading." Let that trust settle over you like morning light.
Confession
Now, gently bring any barriers between you and clarity into the light. Sometimes we avoid asking for guidance because we fear what the answer might be, or because we already sense a direction we're reluctant to follow. You don't have to hide this from Jesus—He already knows. As Scripture says, "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account" (Hebrews 4:13, NIV). But this verse isn't meant to shame you; it's meant to free you. You might pray: "Jesus, I confess that I'm afraid of what you might ask of me," or "I confess that I want your guidance only if it matches what I already want." Name it simply. Then listen for His response—not as judgment, but as the kindness of someone who wants to clear the air so you can hear Him better.
Thanksgiving
Even before you know the next step, there is much to be grateful for. Thank Jesus for the fact that you don't have to figure this out alone. Thank Him for the people, experiences, and even the uncertainties that have shaped you up to this moment. "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). You might pray: "Jesus, I'm grateful that you don't leave me guessing. I'm thankful for the ways you've already guided me, even when I didn't recognize it at the time." Pause and let genuine gratitude emerge—it shifts something in your heart and opens you to receive what He wants to show you.
My Concerns
Now bring your specific question to Jesus. Be concrete. Not "Help me make good choices," but "Should I take this job?" or "How do I navigate this relationship?" or "What does faithfulness look like in this situation?" Jesus loves specificity because it shows you're serious. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7, NIV). You might pray: "Jesus, I need to know if I should move forward with this decision, or wait. Show me where you're leading." Then listen. Guidance doesn't always come as a thunderbolt—sometimes it's a gentle sense of peace or unease, a verse that suddenly makes sense, a conversation that clarifies things, or the simple knowing that comes when you sit still long enough. Ask Him to make His will clear to you in a way you can recognize, and tell Him you're willing to follow wherever He leads. End by saying: "I'm listening, Jesus. Lead me today."
