Adoration
Begin by simply remembering who Jesus is—the one who sees the whole picture when you can only see the next step. You might start by acknowledging His character: "Jesus, You know the way I should go. You see what I cannot see, and I trust that You care about the details of my life." Let yourself sit with the truth that Jesus is not distant from your decisions—He's actively present in them. As the Psalmist writes, "You will show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy" (Psalm 16:11, ESV). He doesn't just know the right answer; He walks the path with you. Spend a moment naming something about Jesus that brings you peace—maybe His faithfulness, His patience, or the way He's guided you before.
Confession
It's honest to admit where you stand right now. You might tell Jesus about the anxiety tangled up with this decision, or the times you've rushed ahead without waiting for His direction. Maybe you're carrying doubt about whether He'll actually show you the way, or regret about past choices that make you hesitant now. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, ESV). There's no shame in bringing these things to Him. In fact, naming them—the fear, the impatience, the uncertainty—actually clears the way for you to hear Him more clearly. Take a moment and speak aloud or silently what weighs on you.
Thanksgiving
Before you ask for the next step, pause to recognize where Jesus has already guided you. Think back to a time He showed you the way, even in small things. Maybe it was a conversation that opened a door, a thought that wouldn't leave you alone, or a closed door that protected you even though you didn't understand it then. "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV). Gratitude isn't about pretending the uncertainty isn't real—it's about remembering that He has never left you stranded before. As you name those moments, let your heart settle into trust. Thank Him specifically for His faithfulness in your past, which is the ground your faith stands on right now.
My Concerns
Now bring your question directly to Jesus. Tell Him what you're facing—the choice before you, the confusion, the weight of it. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6, ESV). You don't need fancy words; just be honest. You might pray something like, "Jesus, I don't know which way to go. Show me what step is mine to take. Calm my mind so I can hear You. Give me wisdom and courage." Then—and this matters—create some space to listen. Sometimes His guidance comes as a quiet knowing, a verse that suddenly means something new, a sense of peace about one direction, or simply a next small step that becomes clear. He may not answer everything at once, and that's okay. Ask Him to guide you not just in this decision, but in trusting Him while you wait.
