Seeking Wisdom at Midday
A prayer guide to help you pause at midday and invite Jesus into the decisions and directions you're facing. This guide uses ACTS to help you listen for His wisdom in the midst of your day.
Midday
Need direction
5–12 min
Adoration
Start by turning your attention toward Jesus as the One who sees the whole picture of your life. He's not distant or surprised by your need for direction. In Psalm 25:4-5, the writer invites Jesus in: "Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation." You might whisper that back to Him now—not because you need perfect words, but because you're acknowledging that He is the guide you actually need. Jesus promised, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12, ESV). Take a moment to tell Him: You are the One I'm turning toward. You see what I cannot see. I trust that You are trustworthy.
Confession
Now gently bring to Jesus any resistance you're carrying. Sometimes we hesitate to follow His guidance because we're afraid, or we've already decided which direction we want to go, or we don't fully believe He's good. There's no shame in that—it's honest. The apostle James writes, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). Notice that: He gives without finding fault. You're safe to admit to Jesus where you're doubting, where you're holding tight, where you're afraid. You might simply say: Help me release my grip on how I think this should go. I want to trust You more than I trust my own fear.
Thanksgiving
Even in the middle of uncertainty, there is something to be grateful for. You can thank Jesus that He cares enough to guide you at all—that you're not abandoned to figure this out alone. You can give thanks for the ways He's guided you before, even when the path wasn't what you expected. Philippians 4:6 reminds us: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (NIV). Pause here and name something: a time He led you faithfully, a person He placed in your life, a door He opened or closed with mercy. Thank Him for it. You might say: Thank You that I don't have to figure this out alone. Thank You that You're already moving in ways I can't see.
My Concerns
Now bring your actual need before Him. Be specific. Don't soften your question or pretend you're more certain than you are. Jesus wants your real ask. Tell Him what decision is in front of you, what direction you're uncertain about, what wisdom you need. Then, invite Him to lead you—not just to answer your question, but to shape your heart toward obedience. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (NIV). You might pray: Here's what I'm facing, Jesus. I need Your wisdom. Show me the next right step—not just the answer, but the courage to follow where You lead. And help me trust You, even if the path looks different than I imagined.
