When You're Not Sure: An Evening Prayer
A gentle prayer guide for evening moments when uncertainty settles in. This guide creates space to bring your questions to Jesus without needing to have it all figured out.

Adoration
Start by noticing what steadies you about Jesus, even in the uncertainty. You might recall a time when He proved faithful, or simply rest in who He is beyond your questions. As the prophet Isaiah writes, "Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you" (Jeremiah 32:17, ESV). Even when your path ahead is unclear, His character is not. Spend a moment naming one thing about Jesus that feels solid to you right now—His patience, His presence, His refusal to rush you. You might simply say, "Jesus, even though I'm unsure, I trust that you see what I cannot see."
Confession
Uncertainty can feel like a failure, but it's not. Still, bring to Jesus whatever sits underneath the not-knowing—the fear, the restlessness, the pull to figure everything out on your own. You might confess the times you've wanted to control the outcome, or the moments you've doubted His kindness. As Paul reminds us, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33, NIV). There's no shame in admitting you cannot see the whole story. Tell Jesus what you're actually afraid of. That honesty is the beginning of trust.
Thanksgiving
Even in uncertainty, there is ground to stand on. Thank Jesus for the clarity you do have—for this moment, for people who steady you, for the ways He has guided you before even when you couldn't see the map. You might give thanks for rest at the end of the day, or for the chance to turn your wandering thoughts toward Him. The Psalmist writes, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5, NIV). Gratitude doesn't erase your questions; it reminds you that you're not alone in them. Name one thing, however small, that you're grateful for tonight.
My Concerns
Now bring your uncertainty directly to Jesus. Not as a problem to solve, but as something to lay at His feet. You might pray, "Jesus, I don't know what comes next, and that frightens me. Help me wait without needing to rush ahead. Show me the next small step, if there is one." Ask for wisdom, for peace that doesn't depend on having answers, for the courage to live with questions for now. As James invites, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5, NIV). Ask Him to quiet your mind enough to hear His gentle voice. Ask for rest tonight—permission to set the uncertainty down, at least for a while, and trust Him with the morning.
