When You're Standing in the Middle

A midday prayer for moments when you're uncertain about what comes next. This guide will help you bring your confusion and questions to Jesus, who meets you exactly where you are.

Midday I don't know what to pray
5–12 min

You've paused your day to sit with Jesus in this uncertainty. That matters. Let's talk through what's on your heart.

Adoration

Begin by noticing who Jesus is, even in your confusion. He is not confused. As it says in James, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault" (James 1:5, NIV). Jesus doesn't turn away from your questions—He invites them. Take a moment to acknowledge His steadiness. You might pray something like: *Jesus, even though I'm unsure right now, I know You are sure. I trust that You see what I can't see yet.* Let yourself rest in that for a breath.

Confession

Now bring the weight of your uncertainty honestly. Sometimes doubt feels like a failure, but it isn't. It's what happens when we bump up against the limits of what we know. Talk to Jesus about where you're stuck. You might confess anxiety you've been carrying about this decision, or impatience with yourself for not having clarity yet. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (NIV). Your weariness from not knowing—He sees that. You don't have to pretend to be certain. Just tell Him the truth.

Thanksgiving

Even in uncertainty, there is ground to stand on. Look back a moment. What is one thing you know to be true right now, even if everything else feels unclear? Maybe it's someone who loves you, a promise of God you've held before, a skill you have, or simply that you're still here trying. Give thanks for that solid thing. Philippians 4:6 reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (NIV). Gratitude doesn't make uncertainty disappear, but it anchors you. Thank Jesus for one thing that hasn't shifted.

My Concerns

Now tell Jesus what you need. Not what you think you *should* need, but what you actually need right now. Is it clarity? Peace while you wait? Trust? Permission to move forward without having it all figured out? The apostle Paul wrote, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7, NIV). You don't need perfect certainty to take the next small step. Ask Jesus for what would help you move forward—even just today. Ask Him to guide you, to speak to you, to make the way clearer as you go.
